When it comes to skin care, you have ditched the chemicals and embraced the natural but wait a minute you could be overlooking a seemingly unimportant thing that could be undermining your natural skin care efforts – your sponge/loofah/washcloth!
Your sponge, loofah or washcloth are effective exfoliators and if used the right way, do an excellent job of getting rid of dead skin cells, dirt, grime and probably microscopic poo! Yep that’s right!
The kicker is that some of those yucky, icky stuff, even microscopic poo (yes that’s right!), could get caught up in your sponge and never get washed out if you don’t care for it properly. Worse still, they could lead to some very serious infections.
So whether you use a natural sponge like the loofah or a synthetic one like the net sponge or plastic poof, here are some tips to help you stay healthy while getting clean:
- WASH IT THOROUGHLY: After each use wash your sponge with soap and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- DRY IT OUT: Your bathroom may be damp and moist so it is important to take extra care to make sure your sponge is dry. Damp, moist environments are the perfect spot for a bacteria party! Vigorously shake out excess water and hang to dry in a well-ventilated area.
- BEACH IT: Soak your sponge in a mild bleach solution for 5-10 minutes once a week to sanitize it. This will guarantee that nothing is growing in the fibers of your sponge.
- CHANGE IT: Change your sponge regularly
Oh yes and while your it, don’t forget to change your towel regularly too!
